Plans to build the 20' Puget Challenge Offshore Rowing Dory
If you're looking for a rowing boat to cover the miles in all sorts of weather, look no farther than the Puget Challenge. I designed this dory for a person who wanted to take the inside passage to Alaska with his two sons, fishing and camping all of the way. That route crosses some open water in a few places, so you need something capable in weather, yet easy to row to cover the miles on calm water. Here's the Puget Challenge, built by my ultralight stitch and glue methods so it won't weigh much but will haul quite a load.

Our study plans are two of the actual construction drawings. They're not enough information for you to build the boat, but they do give you the overall boat size, shape and construction methods. This is a pdf file readable with the free Adobe Acrobat pdf file reader.

About Ultralight Stitch and Glue Boats
The Stitch and Glue boat construction technique, evolving over past thirty years or so, was simultaneously developed by a number of innovative boat designers. The technique resulted in simple, easily built boats with beautifully sweeping lines and light, tough construction. These plans include all dimensions for all parts of the boat and easy to follow instructions for assembling the parts. These boats go together without any jigs or fixtures, so anyone can build one in your garage or back yard. Many are little more than a dozen to twenty hours of work.
