Boatbuilding Tips and Tricks
Sunday, November 11, 2012
I just received this email:
Well finally here are some pictures of the Pescadaro dory I built. I bought the plans last year and contacted you about cutting the size down to under 12-feet so I could get it out of my shed. I cut the width and height down 2-inches all around too. For the framing I used southern yellow pine planed to 1-full inch and 1/2 marine plywood for the bottom and 1/4 inch for the sides. It's still pretty heavy, around 250 pounds, but 2-guys can still pick it up. Overall it took me about 400 hours in 3 1/2 months to build - start to finish.
I get a lot of nice compliments when its on the water and that makes it well worth it. Also I have built a lot of things in my life but this boat was pretty challenging and pure pleasure.
Thanks for being out there and providing us carpenters with such great projects.
You're very welcome Ray. Thank you for the great pictures. You look proud, and your boat looks very professional. Well done!
